COVID Consolation
During the COVID crisis music was a great outlet for so many. Did you see the pictures or videos of people in other countries sitting on their decks and playing piano or guitar for those in the community? It was amazing! Feeling frustrated, out of control and lonely was difficult the pandemic but those with instruments could sit down and play music to console their emotions within. Not only is it personally consoling but others can enjoy the beauty of the moment. Playing your mp3’s can also alter emotions but playing your instrument is even more consoling because you are personally involved in a physical way with the piece. Watch this video of a young boy expressing emotion while he is playing the organ.
Tears is not a bad thing
As a child I found myself running to the piano to play when I was sad. I would especially find contentment playing my church songs. Playing an upbeat piece of music would alter my spirit in a joyful way or feeling sad I would play a slow worship song and it would bring tears. The tears were a good thing. Releasing the emotion was healing!
Music is like no other!
Music is a great way to express and can console in ways that you will not find in most of your children’s other non curricular activities. Everyone should have the opportunity to experience the connection of music through playing an instrument. Don’t deprive yourself of the means to release joy, sadness, love, peace and so many other feelings through the power of music. Find a keyboard and begin the journey of musical expression. Learning to play by note is good. However, learn how to play using chords and patterns so that you can be expressive and creative with your own feelings within. Don’t be strapped to note reading. You want to be able to sit down without anything and just play. It’s therapy!
Musical expression is a gift!
