With so many apps available on the App Store, what is the best one to start with so that a student can begin learning their notes or even mastering them? Note Rush and MusicFlashClass are 2 apps. Great for the student just starting out or for the more advance student.
2 Best Note Reading Practice Apps
Note Rush –
The student will need to be at the piano or keyboard to drill with this app. The app shows the student a note and then the student plays it on their keyboard or piano. Every letter on the music staff has its own special spot on the keyboard. For example, there are several C’s on the keyboard, if they show the student the note middle C and the student plays the wrong C on the keyboard then it will be incorrect. It has midi capability or can be calibrated to the students keyboard. This is a true drill of not just choosing to say that note is a C but also having to find its correct place on the keyboard.
15 levels or you can design your own! Another feature this app provides is seasonal themes for the background. It’s a fun app and does score students as well so that they can continue to improve their note reading in a fun way! It has a 4.4 rating with 674 ratings in the App Store. That is pretty amazing! It’s a one time charge of around $4.95.
MusicFlashClass –
MusicFlashClass is another option for note reading drill. You can practice with this app away from the keyboard. You can select which notes you want to drill and which keys and chromatics you want to include in your deck. You can set a time limit or not. It’s your choice! There are a few other options as well but these are definitely the most important. Very low pressure or if the student needs the challenge this app can offer that as well. This is a great app to start with when a student is just getting started. This would be my first choice for the very beginner student. The price is a one time $3.99.
Apps are a great way to drill so many musical concepts and so worth the small investment. Many students enjoy a game style format to reinforce or master concepts. These apps are sure to bring fun into learning!
